As International Nurses Day approaches quickly, on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, we at risr/ want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary impact nurses have on individuals, families, and communities around the world.
Working within the healthcare education sector, we’re in a unique position. Every day, we collaborate with institutions, educators, and professionals who are shaping the next generation of nurses and healthcare providers. Through this, we’ve had the privilege of meeting so many passionate, compassionate, and driven individuals. People who don’t just see healthcare as a profession, but as a calling.
At risr/, we’re on a mission to support healthcare education by providing a solution that helps institutions streamline assessment, track learner performance, and ensure students are prepared for real-world clinical environments. In a field where competence and confidence directly impact patient outcomes, we’re proud to play even a small role in supporting the development of future healthcare professionals.
But beyond the systems and solutions, what truly stands out are the human stories, the moments of care, empathy, and connection that define nursing. Here are just a few stories from when nurses have made an impact on risr/ team members:
Stories from the risr/ team

“Nurses are real life superheroes. Day in, day out, they show up everyday with a mission for care. Ever since my granny was diagnosed with cancer back in Nov 2024, the nurses have shown up each and every visit, making sure she felt safe, comfortable and deeply cared for every single time. Despite the language barrier, they made her feel seen and heard, even taking time to learn phrases to communicate with her in our language, never leaving a stone unturned for her, treating her with the utmost respect and dignity. Especially in the most recent days, as my granny is at the end of life, they have sat with us as a family, taking time to take care of us alongside their patients. And I don’t know how they do it, but I couldn’t be more grateful for all these wonderful and selfless people who dedicate their lives to help care for others. And to the nurses at Darent Valley Hospital, from Pine Therapy Unit and Oak Ward, thank you for all that you’ve done and all that you do. Happy International Nurses Week, you’re all superstars!”

“People always said to me that you forget the pain associated with childbirth (which is partially true!) but I’ve never forgotten the care and empathy I received from the nurses and midwives when having both my children. I remember feeling really overwhelmed when I was in labour with my first daughter, she’d decided to come a week early, and even though it was only a week she caught me off guard and I felt totally unprepared! The nurses and midwives put me at ease straight away. The support and comfort was amazing, from explaining what was going to happen when we first arrived to answering the numerous (probably quite silly!) questions I asked after having baby, particularly as they must hear the same questions a thousand times a week! The nursing and midwifery staff are unsung heroes; they do an amazing job, families go off into the sunset with their new bundles of joy, but the care and support received is certainly never forgotten.”

“A few years back, my grandpa was going on week 2 of being in the hospital; uncomfortable, beyond bored, and not knowing how to manoeuvre a cell phone, nor with any interest in reading. His only source of entertainment was visitors and the hospital staff. My grandma stayed by his side, every single day, and was amazed at the care the nurses provided him, beyond just traditional medication distribution, check-ins, appointments, and tests. They remembered the names of his grandchildren, listened to his long-winded stories, and quickly showed that they truly care. I’ll never forget going to visit my grandpa and being greeted by a nurse I hadn’t yet met by my first name, knowing it only from listening to my grandpa. My grandma had said it best after being grateful beyond words for the support of the nurses at the Windsor Regional Hospital, “Whatever this nurse makes, it’s not nearly enough for what he does. Double would not even be nearly enough”. Happy International Nurses Week. Thank you for all that you do.”
Final Thoughts
These stories are just a glimpse into the countless ways nurses go above and beyond every single day. Whether it’s through small acts of kindness or life-changing moments of care, their impact is immeasurable.
To every nurse, thank you. Your dedication, compassion, and resilience do not go unnoticed. On International Nurses Day, and every day, we celebrate you.
